Selvaragavan created a new world for the film

Looks like the team of Selvaraghavan's Irandam Ulagam is leaving no stone unturned to make sure the audience like the film. We hear that apart from the interesting story line and some power-packed performances from the cast including Arya and Anushka, one of the many things that will hold the audience's attention is the breath-taking visuals.

A source from the production house reveals, "Selvaraghavan was particular that the locations where he would shoot for the film have to be out of the world. He wanted to create an irandam ulagam (second world), something that the audience has not seen before. The team checked out a few places in north India, including Ladhak, but the audience would have seen them in one film or the other. So, they chose some never-shot-before-at locations for the film."

The source adds, "We shot in Hyderabad, Goa, Rajamundhry and Chennai in the country. We then travelled to Rio de Janeiro (in Brazil) and Utah (in USA), and Georgia for a 90-day schedule. We also shot a song in Uzbekistan. All the shots were canned outdoor, and schedules were held at locations where there were bare minimum infrastructure. Keith Devlin, who has worked on several Hollywood films including Avatar, joined the crew as the visual effects supervisor, and he travelled with the unit to oversee the CG compatibility. The film involves a lot of CG work and was simultaneously done at studios in Mumbai and Hyderabad. It's Selva's vision and the team is happy the film has shaped up well."

Irandam Ulagam, produced by Param V Potluri for PVP Cinema and presented by Pearl V Potluri, will release in Tamil and Telugu by the third week of November.

Arya seems to be one professional actor. The actor, who is recovering from a knee ligament surgery, was spotted limping around during the audio launch of the Telugu version of Irandam Ulagam, Varna.

Speaking on the occasion, the actor said that Anushka was the hero of the film. In fact, cut-outs and hoardings of the actress were placed just outside the venue as she was playing Varna in the film. It was indeed professional of the actor to not only make it to the launch and at the same time give the credit to his co-star and filmmakers.

Hema Malini comes out with first devotional album

Actress-director-danseuse Hema Malini has always maintained a strong bond with culture and arts. Today sees the release of her maiden album, Soundaryalahiri. Set to tune by Ashit Desai, it has verses chanted by her, Shankar Mahadevan, Suresh Wadkar and Desai.

"I've always been fascinated with the sacred verses of this text written by Adi Shankaracharya. Since I'm a dancer, we're familiar with the Sanskrit texts, as we automatically learn them during rehearsals. This album is my offering to the divine mother Tripurasundari," says Hema, who has been thinking about this idea for the last two years.

She adds, "I've learnt music since this is a part and parcel of growing up in a traditional Tamil Brahmin family. In fact, I've even given three exams in music when I was young. While families in South India are familiar with Soundaryalahari, I wanted others to know of it too."

The album will have an introduction by Amitabh Bachchan. And, Hema says, her new offering can be used for meditation as well. "I've chanted some of the verses, while the others have been gracious enough to accept my offer and chant the rest," she adds.

Quiz her about the reaction to the album from her family and she says, "They all got to hear it. In fact, Dharamji was pleasantly surprised and asked me how I spoke such fluent Sanskrit. He is very supportive." She says many spiritual leaders, too, have been appreciative about her album. "When Sri Sri Ravishankar and Giri Maharaj got to know of this, they said that it is a privilege for someone to chant Soundaryalahari," she adds.

As for whether she plans to come out with more devotional albums, she says, "I've nothing planned. As of now, I just want people to listen to this one."

Soundaryalahari is available on Times Music across all major music and retail stores. Digital downloads also available on music websites.

Doctors told me that I can't perform action scenes: Hrithik

People in Indore were overwhelmed to see Hrithik Roshan, who was in the neighbouring city on Monday to promote his upcoming flick Krrish 3.

Hrithik had come along with his director-producer dad Rakesh Roshan. While the fans were excited just to catch a glimpse of him, the kids couldn't contain the urge to shake hands with him. The hall was choc a bloc with people, who cheered loudly in response when the actor asked, "Kaise hain ap?"

The father-son duo then talked about the movie and about the qualities that make a superhero. "I believe that there is a superhero in everyone's heart. Hum sab mein ek superhero hai. We just have to be good to others. That is what a superhero does. He helps others. You don't need to jump from skyscrapers and fly to be one," remarked Hrithik, to which Rakesh Roshan agreed.

The actor, who plays a superhero in the film, went through a difficult time while shooting, when he was diagnosed with a double slipped disc and was asked to rest. "I was told by my doctors that I can't perform the action scenes. But I continued shooting. This is what the movie has taught me - to be strong, confident and positive. We should never give up, and continue to strive for what we want. Krissh- 3 has had a great impact in my life and it surely will appeal to other people," he added.

The flick has Hrithik portraying double roles. On being asked if it was difficult for him to play the characters, Hrithik said, "Rohit and Krrish are two extreme spectrums of my life. It has not been that tough, but yes, I did go the extra mile to bring life to both the characters."

Both were all praise for Vivek Oberoi, who plays role of Kaal in the movie. "Vivek is a very sincere actor who has portrayed the character very well. No one could have done it better than him," said Hrithik. Overwhelmed by the grand welcome in Indore, Hrithik thanked the people for coming and apologised that he couldn't respond to all the questions because of the time constraints. "Sorry, I can not talk more now. Thank you very much," waved Hrithik and signed off.

Sridevi, who ruled over Bollywood for more than one-and-a-half-decades after remaining on top in Tamil and Telugu films in the late seventies and early eighties, is all set to enter Hollywood. The 50-year old Sridevi looks still stunning enough to be considered for heroine's roles in Hindi films and made a successful comeback to films with late last year’s English Vinglish.

Sridevi has been signed up to star in an English film along with 64-year old Oscar award-winner Meryl Streep. Sridevi has confirmed that talks are on with the producers of the film and that she hasn't yet given the final 'go-ahead'.

The film has been tentatively titled as Cowboys and Indians. Critics feel that the title might run into trouble in India as and when the film is released some time next year. However, as the titled is a tentative one, it has chances of getting replaced by another non-controversial one.

Amy Redford, daughter of Hollywood actor-director Robert Redford, would be directing the film.

Expressing her excitement at getting to share screen-space with the legendary Meryl Streep, Sridevi said "No doubt I'm damn excited about the project; I shall reveal more details about the film when it is finalized!"

Director refuses to change title that refers to Suriya

Raja Subbiah, who is directing and acting in the film Saravanan Engira Suriya, says that he has been getting requests from actor Suriya's side to change the title of his film. Suriya's actual name, before he entered the film industry, was Saravanan.

Assuring that the story has nothing defaming about Suriya, Raja says that he has completed the film and changing the title will involve significant re-shooting. "The title aptly fits the story. We have created the scenes and dialogues keeping this title concept in mind. We have spent much of our time, money and energy working on this script, and creating publicity. Changing the title will mean that all these will go to waste," he explains. Raja claims that he initially had another title for the film but while writing the script, he was inspired by a dialogue the hero says to change the title to Saravanan Engira Surya. We were well into the shoot when it dawned upon us that Suriya's actual name is also Saravanan," he says.

Meanwhile, Suriya's spokesperson says they had come to know from media reports that the film is about a guy who thinks he is like actor Suriya. "Our concern is that people will associate such a title with Suriya. We have filed an objection with the Nadigar Sangam, and they have taken it with the producers' guild, where the title has been registered," he says and adds that Raja had not taken any permission from them for this title.

Clarifying that they are not against the film or its content, he says, "We do not know the film's content, so we cannot say whether we are okay with that or not. Right now, our objection is only to the title as it directly refers to actor Suriya. This is just a tactic to gain publicity by using Suriya's name." He informs that the Nadigar Sangam has now told the Producers' Guild that they should get an approval from them before registering titles which have an actor's name.

Juhi Chawla gears up against mobile phones

Actress-turned-social activist Juhi Chawla has highlighted the harmful effects of radiation from the mobile phones and towers and urged people to use land-line telephones.

Juhi Chawla, along with a citizens' group, organised a press conference to talk about the issue.

"Why don't the mobile operator companies give us some information about how the mobile phone works and that one should use it carefully? I would say for long-duration calls, one should use either landline phones or connect earphones to your mobile and then use it for longer call duration," Juhi told the reporters.

"I think it's just lack of awareness and information, and that is what I am trying to promote as we all carry a mobile phone in our pockets," added the actress.

Juhi, a mother of two, also requested parents to keep their kids away from the mobile phones as they are more prone to its health hazards.

According to reports, earlier this month, the actress and her fellow activist Prakash Munshi asked the state government to ensure that the rules for mobile phone towers curb the radiation hazard.

The actress will soon be seen in producer Anubhav Sinha's " Gulaab Gang".

What is Nikita Thukral’s role in Ring Road Shubha?

It's been a while since Nikita Thukral was seen in Sandalwood, given that her last release was Krantiveera Sangoli Rayanna which hit the screens last year. The actress, who spent nearly three months away for a reality show earlier this year, had upon her return signed up for the Bollywood remake of Traffic, which she is busy with currently.

Her next Kannada film, we hear, is going to be Ring Road Shubha, directed by Priya Belliapa. "Yes, I have signed up for the film, and will be paired with Duniya Vijay. I will join the team this week," she says, refusing to divulge further details about her role. When we asked Priya, she too remained non-committal, telling us that the film is based on real-life incidents, adding though, that it is not just about the tale of Bangalorean Shubha, who was convicted in the murder of her fiance.

A source from the team adds that there is more to the story than meets the eye. "There is a reason that the team has chosen to pair Vijay with Nikita, which is a first for them. Priya and her team are making contemporary adaptation of real-life stories. Who knows, it could be about our actors as well," says the source.

Rima and Aashiq to tie the knot next month

It was just a few months back that Mollywood director Aashiq Abu and actress Rima Kallingal went public with their two-year-old relationship.

Ever since, speculations were rife about their marriage. However, the duo kept the public guessing. But now, putting an end to all the speculations, Aashiq has announced the big news during an interview to a television channel.

When we contacted the director, he confirmed the news and said, "Rima and I are getting married next month. But we haven't decided the date. It is likely to take place in the first week of November."

He also said that, since both of them come from different religious backgrounds, their wedding will not be a religious do. "That's all I can tell you now. We are still chalking out plans," he said.

The religious differences between the couple are currently a hot topic of discussion on social networking forums, with many voicing their protest and even suggesting that Rima embrace Islam to get married to her director beau. However, the actress slammed all the reports of her converting to Islam and said she and Aashiq will continue to follow their respective beliefs and professions after the marriage as well.
Aashiq had earlier mentioned that though the duo had known each other before 22 Female Kottayam, it was during the shoot of the movie that their friendship blossomed into love. Interestingly, Aashiq's blockbuster movie, which proved to be a major turning point in Rima's career, was announced and launched on November 1, 2011. Now, that has got us wondering if November is a lucky month for the couple and whether they deliberately zeroed in on the month for another remarkable turning point in their lives.

The recently released Attarintiki Daredi is continuing on it record breaking run at the BO unabated. Many of his fans however believe that Pawan is the biggest superstar in the business today as the record breaking success came after a 90 minute pirated version was leaked well before the movie released.

The 'Twilight Saga' actor revealed the 'strange' fetish is what attracts him to the opposite sex, but the bachelor claims women who are looking to win his affections don't need to worry about wearing expensive perfumes.

Robert told Portuguese magazine, Activa : 'It doesn't necessarily have to be perfume. I like the smell of people. It is really strange and I'm sure it has to do with pheromones. We like people because subconsciously we like the way they smell. I always find this very interesting to observe.'

The 27-year-old actor's obsession with smell could have been what attracted him to ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart, who has previously said she was a fan of her former flame's natural scent.

In 2012 Kristen told Vogue magazine: I'm so in love with my boyfriend I love the way he smells. And him me.

Like, he loves to lick under my armpits. I don't get this obsession with washing the smell off. That smell of someone you love - don't you think that's the whole point?

The pair ended their three-year-romance five months ago following allegations last year Kristen had cheated with 'Snow White and The Hunstman' director Rupert Sanders.

Robert has since been linked with actor Sean Penn's daughter, Dylan Penn.

Sources claim that the number, which also apparently features Charmee and Scarlett Wilson, is more of a situational song than what is essentially labelled an item number. The pre-climax number, composed by Pritam, features a whole lot of artists, including all the villains in the film.

The team has shot for a day earlier, but stopped due to the untimely demise of Telugu star Srihari, who was a part of the film. The next schedule will begin later this week.

With many successful south heroines finding it quite a challenging to sustain a career in Bollywood after they have kicked it off with an item number, it is now up to Ragini to see what she makes out of her big ticket.
