Genelia Learning Punjabi for Her Upcoming Zom-Com

Actress Genelia D’Souza, who will next be seen romancing Abhay Deol in the zombie comedy, Rock the Shaadi (RTS), is gearing up to work hard to master the Punjabi accent to get into the skin of her character of a Punjabi bride in the film. Genelia, whose latest release was Force opposite John Abraham, has worked down south before, due to which she has grown comfortable with languages like Tamil and Telugu, but learning the nuances of the north Indian language is a first for her.

Sources closes to the actor reveal that she pretty excited about the role, especially for her overall look that will require her to wear some heavily embellished outfits in rich colours along with heavy jewellery that is typical of a bride from Punjab. “She’s working very hard not only on the look, but also on the Punjabi language and the accent. In fact, Genelia has a lot of Punjabi friends and she’s spends a considerable amount of time with them. So, it wont be a task for her,” says the official spokesperson of the film.

The 24-year-old actor becomes a household name after the success of Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008), where she played the lead role opposite Imran Khan. She also appeared opposite Shahid Kapoor in Chance Pe Dance (2010). Produced by television czar Ekta Kapor, RTS, is the second film by director Navdeep Singh after Manorama Six Feet Under (2007), which also starred Abhay Deol in the lead role. Earlier titled Shaadi of the Dead, RTS is essentially a fun Punjabi film, which centers on a Punjabi wedding. The source adds that almost 60-70 per cent of the film will be shot in and around a shaadi mandap.
