The actor also gave a pleasant surprise to the audience when he called Siva Karthikeyan his younger brother. He said that since he was the youngest among his siblings, he always yearned for a smaller brother. He added that he would be the pillar of support at all time. Now that's indeed a sweet gesture from the actor.

'Ethir Neechal' spells profit for Dhanush

Dhanush's production venture 'Ethir Neechal' raked in approximately Rs.4 crore on its release day in Tamil Nadu despite getting mixed reviews. Said to be made on a budget of Rs.9 crore, Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Tamil romantic-drama hit the screens May 1.

"The film released in over 300 screens in Tamil Nadu and collected approximately Rs. 4 crore on the first day," said a statement from the production house. Directed by R Durai Senthil Kumar, 'Ethir Neechal' has music by Anirudh Ravichander.

The makers are now planning to release the film in other states such as Karnataka and Kerala. The film also features Priya Anand, Nandita, Jayaprakash, Ravi Kumar, Manobala and Dhanush with Nayantara in a special song. Although the film got mixed reviews, but it has picked up at the box box office, thanks to positive word of mouth.

"Sivakarthikeyan has become an overnight star since his debut film 'Marina'. The audiences love him for his comedy and wholesome entertainment, and that's precisely why his films are a hit amongst masses," said Trinath, a trade analyst.

"His films generate revenue from B and C class centres. Even his film 'Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga' was not a multiplex hit, but it did good business in smaller towns of Tamil Nadu," he added.

This is the second hit for Sivakarthikeyan in a row. His recently released low-budget film 'Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga' (KBKR) raked in approximately Rs.7 crore in Tamil Nadu in the opening week.

Sachin Thanked Dhanush & Co.

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the unforgettable Indian cricketer who has recently scored his 100th century, has thanked Dhanush and all the stars accompanied him for Sachin Anthem.

Speaking to media in Mumbai Sachin said, "I've seen the video and it's clear that, it was done with great heart and effort." "I could see a lot of energy in the track and their performance as well," he added.

"I was touched with the track that was done for me with such an effort that turned to be an Anthem today," concluded master blaster.

Dhanush's Kolaveri a Rage!

The Superstar's son-in-law is proving his mettle as a singer as well.

The single from the movie 3 first made headlines because it was leaked online. Then actor Dhanush clarified saying that the song that was leaked was only two per cent of the original song. It was tweaked by young music director Anirudh and finally released as single a few days back. And no sooner had it been released it is already a rage among the youth in the city. Says youngster Ajay S, "The song is fab. Dhanush sure knows how to give youth songs that they like."

The National Award winning actor has also sung some songs in Mayakkam Enna, a movie directed by his brother Selvaraghavan, that will be released next week. Looks like the Superstar's son-in-law is now turning ac singer as well!

Simbu and Dhanush's common friend : Richa

Tamil cinema for a long time has been insisting that language is no barrier for debuting. Tamil cinema has been importing new faces and fulfilling the desire of Tamil audience. In that way, Richa Gangopadhyay is the recent new comer to Tamil cinema.

She made her first debut in a Telugu film titled Leader which had Raana in the lead role. This film was a super hit. Apart from this she has also acted in the Chandramukhi 2. Director Selvaraghavan has introduced Richa Gangopadhyay in Tamil. She is pairing with Dhanush in the film titled Mayakkam Enna which is directed by Selvaraghavan.

Even before the release of this film she was signed for the female lead role in Osthi which has Simbu in the lead role. When asked Richa Gangopadhyay that who is her best friend among Dhanush and Simbu, she says, “Both of them are my close friends. Dhanush taught me about lot of things in acting while Simbhu patiently taught me the steps in the dancing sequences. Apart from Dhanush and Simbu, there are lots of other actors in my friendship list.”

Dhanush is Best Actor at National Film Awards

Regional cinema was in the spotlight at the 58th National Film Awards presented today. Big winners included Tamil actor Dhanush and Malayalam actor Salim Kumar who shared the prestigious Best Actor award. Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu bagged the Best Feature Film.

The awards were presented by President Pratibha Patil at the Vigyan Bhawan.

The awards were hosted by actors Mahie Gill and Rajat Kapoor. "I am hosting the national awards function in Delhi- its a new thing for me.. A little nervous..." the actor tweeted before the event.

Veteran Tamil filmmaker K. Balachander was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2010 for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The 81-year-old writer-director-producer has directed nearly 80 films in his career and launched the career of Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth.

Hindi cinema's big award came from Dabangg, starring Salman Khan. Dabangg picked up the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora Khan and Dhilin Mehta, Dabangg was a runaway hit, collecting a record-setting 14.5 crore on the first day. That record has now been undone by another Salman Khan film, Bodyguard which coasted to a jaw-dropping 22 crore on its first day.

The Award for the Best Hindi Film has been given to Do Dooni Chaar, produced by Arindam Chaudhuri and directed by Habib Faisal. he unpretentious film brought back the 70s hit pair and real-life star couple Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh on screen after decades.

Other notable winners include Marathi actress Mitalee Jagtap Varadkar and Tamil actress Saranya Ponvannan who jointly won Best Actress for Baboo Band Baaja and Thenmerkku Paruvakkatru. Husband-wife music-makers Rekha Bhardwaj and Vishal Bhardwaj won an award each for Best Female Playback Singer and Best Music Direction for Ishqiya.

Rajini will soon be back to complete 'Raana', says Dhanush

Superstar Rajinikanth, who has been in and out of hospital over the last three weeks, is recovering well at a Singapore facility and will be back in Chennai soon, said his son-in-law and actor Dhanush on Tuesday.

"He is responding well to treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He should be back in Chennai in a week or 10 days," said Dhanush after announcing the nominees for the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards 2010 (south).

"Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre gave him fantastic treatment. They made him fit to travel so he could get better treatment," said Dhanush, explaining the reason for moving Rajinikanth to Singapore. "The doctors have identified the root cause and it is not an irreversible condition. The superstar is eating well, watching a lot of movies and in a great mood to shop. If he doesn't return after 10 days that will be because we would be on a family vacation," said the actor, adding that Rajini will surely complete 'Raana'.

Rajinikanth was flown to Singapore on May 27 from Chennai, after a series of illnesses. He was admitted to Isabel hospital after the first day of shooting for his latest film 'Raana'. He was later admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre for respiratory infection and other problems.

Dhanush requested fans to not believe rumours. "He has not undergone a kidney transplant. Soon there will be a statement from the superstar himself," said Dhanush, who recently received a national award for his performance in Aadukalam.

"I am happy to be associated with the prestigious Filmfare awards. So far, I have not won an award but am planning to attend this year's ceremony," he said. The ceremony will be held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre on July 2, said Jitesh Pillai, editor, Filmfare. People have voted for nominees in 10 categories each in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies.
